My nomination to stand in the Northern Ward has been confirmed. The three sitting councillors are running again and there are a few new candidates, myself included. It's up to the residents of the Northern Ward to decide if they are satisfied with the status quo or want to seek change and elect some new faces.
I wish all other candidates the best of luck.
Thanks to the Johnsonville Progressive Association for allowing me to attend their meeting last night. It was good to introduce myself to members and find out more about the community work they've been involved in over the last few years. The passion of members was evident when discussing issues such District Plan Change 72 and the implications of housing intensification and also roading issues in the traffic triangle and this is something I applaud. If you want to change something you need to make noise and be heard. I look forward to staying in close contact and doing my part to represent the community's views.
I attended the the Road Safety exhibition last night at the Royal NZ Police Museum after receiving an invite from the Glenside Progressive Association. The exhibition forms part of the Police's efforts to publicise Road Safety week and a series of events will be held between 18 - 23 August. It's definitely worthwhile taking the family to see it, with practical and educational activities for kids and adults, and a fascinating, if not slightly sobering, display showing the aftermath of a car wrecked during a road accident.
Thanks to the Glenside Progressive Association for the invite and it was good to see you all.
Apologies if the blog has been quiet the last couple of weeks, but Liz and I have been tending to our new family member Madeleine (Mads, Maddy, Maddy Moo). She arrived on July 30 2010 and we're completely smitten with her.
Thanks to everyone for helping to put my signs up and for all of those households that are displaying a sign. Your help is greatly appreciated!!
